A Surrey councillor will act as a direct link between Government and fire and rescue services nationally, following a key appointment.
Kay Hammond, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety, has been appointed Chairman of the Local Government Association’s (LGA) fire services management committee.
The role puts her at the heart of national decision making as representative of fire and rescue services across the country and the point of contact for Fire Minister Brandon Lewis.
The county councillor said: “It’s an important role and an opportunity to help shape the future of fire and rescue services nationally. It’s a big responsibility that I welcome and I’ll be working hard to ensure the voices of all fire and rescue services in the country are heard. It’s a privilege to be appointed to the role and an honour for Surrey to have a representative on the national stage.”
Councillor Hammond served on the LGA’s fire services management committee for three years before becoming chairman.
